This post is a bit of hodgepodge of two meeting this week and two very similar action groups Maryland Mom - As a Mom (MMAAM and AAM) and We Surround Them Frederick (WST). All links are listed below. Sorry if it is a bit disjointed it is a cerebral download of TONS of information and I I digest it all I will get into some detail...Let me just point out the links and the suggested reading list these are really great resources to educate ourselves so we can present a united KNOWLEDGEABLE front for such a passionate cause. I encourage you to join AAM and WST and to spread the word in any and every way you can...WAKE THEM UP!

We discussed the letter writing event and we decided to use the ASA logo at the top of our letter to our US Senators Mikulski and Cardin and to keep the topic based on the constitution. If you continue on to the end of this entry you may have a few more ideas on how to word your lettersJ Make sure to sign up on MMASA to hand deliver letter on the 3rd.
We also discussed using the 912forum.com as a reference for the letters.
There was a brief discussion on whether we were identifying as AAM or MM.
This will be revisited.

There will be a statewide MMASA meet and greet on October 28 at the Old Philadelphia Inn (Timonium I think? Check on AAM for specific location and time information)

WST Meeting on 10/23
Last night I attended my first We Surround Them meeting in Frederick. I was very impressed by the group the leaders, the message the goals and the clear focus of the group. Please check it out since I think MM is on a similar track but we need figure out where we are going to focus our sights on. I really like the idea that we focus on the 10th amendment movement and the educations aspect there was discussion with other moms at the meeting last night that we could be a force at the local BOE meeting since there are literally no conservative voices showing up at these meetings. Add to that pushing a campaign of Constitutional awareness; get the message to the kids. This is an idea that I really can identify with as I being to seriously commit to homeschooling.
The theme is: We need to Bypass the 2 party systems and go right to the people.
This is a huge concept and I believe could be a great focus for MM.

Many of our legislators are guilty of voting for excessive taxation, abusing the public trust, and being willfully ignorant of our Constitution. Further, said legislators have demonstrated a lack of fiscal restraint and proper propriety toward public monies. This has left the people stripped of their God- given and Constitutionally guaranteed rights; and exposed them, their families, and their communities to the winds of chance. Though normally prudent and self-sustaining, many members of the citizenry now find themselves removed from respectable and honest employment, through no fault of their own. Such a situation can no longer be tolerated.Be it known, that the people, in exerting their rights, do hereby pledge the following;
1] That we shall assemble at the proper time for voting, and shall vote out of office those who have so abused us.2] That we shall replace these representatives with others who respect our Constitution, the rule of law, and the public trust.3] That these newly-elected representatives shall be held to the highest standards of accountability; and, if found unworthy, shall then be turned out at the next election.

Ladies Lunch Report!
We had a wonderful meeting today with 10 kids! And lots of yummy food. Thanks ladies!!!
We decided to change the name of the blog to Sisterhood of Patriot Moms - Frederick to be more in line with the movement and to establish that we are not exclusive.
I also am adding our original lunch ladies as contributors and my mom b/c she has good things to say most of the time.
We made an excellent video of the boys saying the pledge today but it was quite impromtu so Austin has no shirt ......SOOOO we will have to maybe try again later to clean up that image a bit...it is still very very cute.

Unions
I got a little convo going on a forum today about a comment I made two weeks ago when PresBO made his proclamation that we needed longer school hours and longer school year. I did not disagree with this message (I know, I know). But my immediate reaction was a snort and hearty, "good luck getting the unions on board with that one!"

And oh the can of worms.... a few local teachers were fit to be tied. They are nice ladies but really haven't a clue what that little union card really amounts to. Oh it saves their jobs, it keeps them from getting the short end of the stick, from being harassed by management. All those extra hours they would be forced to work, those standardized tests that speak volume of their ability or lack there of, to teach.
Crapola! I was a dues paying, card carrying member of the IAFF/AFL-CIO for 6 years and there is not a whole lot they accomplished for me that I could not have done myself. But I did watch a 400+ lb co-worker of mine who couldn't even fit in his fire gear skate through his career well on his way to 20 year retirement with full benefits. He only ever did the least amount of work that was required of him got regular raises BUT could only do half the job.
Unions had a purpose when there were no labor laws to protect workers but today they really exist to find new and improved way to accomplish more money for less work, per person because they want more union card holders doing less work for more money. Then they use your money on their political agendas which you may or may not agree with but have no control over.
They relentlessly harass others who really would rather just opt out of the bloodsucking union club and work GLADLY for a little less intrusion into their lives and affairs. Honestly the days of demanding more for less are over; these are the days for being thankful you have something and making the best of it.
IMHO teachers have a great capacity to be amazing givers and that is the path of a teacher.. the job doesn't end at a punch clock and many times is thankless (it is similar for a firefighter, that I know) BUT they have some pretty darn nice gigs these days compared to years ago yet the schools are no longer performing..where is the disconnect?
So this got me to thinking and I stumbled on this great video which says it all so well: http://teachersunionexposed.com/

So I got the usual, run around about the union is a voice for the teachers, a few comments about the DC teacher RIF and how one mom had to invoke the union to negotiate her maternity leave. SERIOUSLY? We have labor laws for that. Even in Maryland (greatest freaking nanny state of all time but still and an "at will" employment state). I did all my foot work for my FMLA because ***SHOCKER*** the laws already existed to protect me, I had no need for my union. It is so bad that union members literally don't know how to survive sans union? How on Earth do millions of non dues paying, non card carrying, non-union member American workers make it every day?
Then I thought, the unions must salivate over industries over which they have no control....then it hit me....lightening struck my brain (thanks Hook)
What is 20% of our economy and largely NOT unionized.....
What is CONGRESS dying to get its grubby little hands on at the beckoning of Marxist, social justice progressive wing-nuts?
HEALTHCARE
Now.......Who is in bed with ACORN.....SEIU......
ok hospital workers are largely unionized yes but the health industry the insurance companies the pharmaceuticals companies....not so much..oh and the doctors...the poor disadvantaged doctors
if this all becomes controlled by the government would it not stand to say that SEIU would be seeing HUGE increases in membership to "fight" for the little guy against the big bad fed? (bile rising up into my throat)
Well if I was a union my mantra would be Money, Politics, and Power and my machine would be lots of card carrying members. I would work hard for those card carrying members to work less so the industry would need to hire more dues paying card carrying members. All the while solidifying my partnerships with policy shapers that can cause just enough mayhem to keep my little chickens close to home.
(Side note,in the fire service the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard gave unions the boost they needed. The NFPA recommended a 4 man engine crew when every department was pretty standard with 3 man crew. It was a recommendation not a requirement BUT the unions started a campaign threatening legal action for departments that did not comply. Many departments can not comply due to cost. Every mistake, every shortcoming every staffing issue is blamed on lack of compliance with NFPA. So the unions have been pushing hard for these massive personnel increases nationwide. Imagine the income this would generate for the union?)
Could it be possible the unionization of the doctors will be the undoing of our health care system regardless of whether the health bill passes or fails? Either way SEIU will be at the helm. Doctors are already starting to unionize.
Unions drain the system of money and the ability to pay for performance, which stifles productivity and gives no incentive for individuals to excel while stripping management of the ability to weed out the bad seeds like any non union business would...hence what a business needs to do to succeed. Unions bog down and threaten management and as such union employees tend very often, to take their jobs for granted (DCPS). I would not say this if I had not seen it with my own eyes.
I did not want to have a lackluster 400lb firefighter in a burning building with me and I sure as hell don't want a union doctor who is gonna take a union break in the middle of surgery b/c he is protesting the bargaining agreement. I especially don't want a union doctor who is practicing without any incentive to excel. It's just dumb.
Maybe I am out in left field here but there doesn't seem to be much lately that isn't.
Oh Well.

VAT TAX?
Seriously Nancy you have your face screwed on too tight.
VAT TAX for real? How is this not raising taxes? A VAT tax is a consumption tax in addition to income and other taxes. A completely new burden coupled with Cap and Fraud which will amount to a tax.
HOW ABOUT just the FAIRTAX but no that put the power in the consumers hand. UNREAL....They want us all living in abject poverty, Cloward - Pivens ?

Conservative Mommas Lunch on Friday
Meeting at my house this Friday at 12:30 I am hoping to discuss some direction for the blog, get some wonderful ladies signed up as contributors and set a plan to get us linked up with the other Patriot Mom''s out there.
It is a lot of work, I hope we can spread it out so we really get some exposure and see what the other moms are planning!

The Dollar's Demise
So let me see if I understand this correctly:
The world is ditching the dollar and our government is gonna let it happen. SO there will be a lot more dollars floating around unencumbered and prices will become will hyper inflated and the dollar worth a lot less.
We will print more money because we can and the fed will pay off our international debts with this money (tooting their horns, no doubt, the entire way.)
The government will be mometarily debt free but will take more loans for more social programs that will keep big government in power forever.
I on the other hand (as well as every other average American who can't afford to buy gold) will be pushing my wheelbarrow full of worthless American dollars to to store to get my one loaf of bread. My house (should I be able to pay the mortgage to keep it) is my only security BUT since no one will be able to buy due to skyrocketing interest rates, it is just something I have not something I can actually use to buy the bread. Essentially, we the American people are screwed....
Be prepared...this is actually happening. Those crisis gardens and seed banks are likely very real necessities. I am just beside myself, I know this is the reality, but it is still shocking to see it unfold. It is maddening to feel so hopeless,so helpless. Tomorrow I am calling my congresspeople AGAIN, surly to no avail. But at least it is something.

I really hope just one person reads this blog and feels compelled to turn the knob on that closet door, breathes deep the awakening breath of one who has been asleep far too long, to embrace that it matters not your race, your culture, your religion; it matters not the R, the D, the I,L G or any other affiliation. It matters not because the system is broken, all of it, all levels.

There are no champions breaking free from the pack to lead us. Never at any other time in our history, have we been so alone in our defense of this great concept, this great liberty, the great Republic, stifled, clotted and smothered by the calcification of the false politic, but for the greed of power and the tinkering of statesmen who have lost their due reverence for the glory of the republic ,for liberty, for the People in exchange for their immortal congressional souls.
I think this is what disturbs me most, not that we are descending into tyranny at an astounding rate but that I am one of many ordinary Americans taking action and there is no one voice to lead us there (in Washington that is). We are banging on the door but they do not hear.
Long ago, I was sitting in Political Science 101 at a state university and we were discussing the Romanian Revolution and how communism and socialism has it grip because the state knows who you are and keeps you in fear of speaking hatred of tyranny. You hate it every day, the guy next to you hates it everyday but you are enslaved to it and you fear it. But you hold your voice deep down in a safe dark place because you have no idea that the guy next to you feels the same way, because you fear being exposed. One day you wake up and you realize, it is more dangerous for you to keep quiet and you finally whisper to the next guy and the next.
My professor was big on political models and coveted the rational choice model:
"Rational Choice Theory: 'rationality' simply means that a person reasons before taking an action. A person balances costs against benefits before taking any action, be it kissing someone, lighting up a cigarette or murdering an old man. In rational choice theory all decisions, crazy or sane, are arrived at by a 'rational' process of weighing costs against benefits." (shameless wikipedia quote but effective)
Essentially, no one will raise a voice until they have weighed the benefits to be worthwhile. For instance, this blog would have never existed had I not seen with my own eyes the numbers of ordinary Americans who selflessly marched on DC on 9/12. and had I not heard the call of certain voices over the airwaves leading the way, telling us, proving to us, that we are not alone.
Knowing this, WHAT ON EARTH CAN OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS BE THINKING? Are they in fear of action and if so how can that be allowed to persist; or are they the oppressors in the perfect guise of being our so called voices, our elected representation but in reality our masters our captors. It is not logical that they could all be so corrupt, or is it? Can we not find just 1 to spark the flame for the fire that is Liberty? It really saddens me. I go too bed each night with less and less hope that a hero for the American people will emerge and set it all right.

New Maryland law takes effect: TWEEN DATING The state’s board of education will be required to encourage county boards of education to include specific lessons on dating violence into the county boards’ health education curriculum.
This led to an interesting exchange lately on a forum mostly populated by very liberal moms or moms who just haven't woken up yet. An whereas I can see how tempting the "do it for the kids" mentality is, I think I am AM doing what I am doing for my kids and praying they become well adjusted individuals that can think for themselves and lead us into the future.
I think the topic of the law is the periphery of much larger problem. Aside from the blatant obvious fact the soon we they will need class on how to blow their noses (oh we already have that too thanks to H1N1), schools seem to think children won't need parents anymore....just a BOE and a county public school, to learn what the establishment thinks is important when they think it is important, like sex ed in elementary school.
Here are some of the exchanges:

And yes, paren'ts /families will be trying to tell their kids this, but some families don't, and unfortunately, for some families, domestic violence is the norm. And for BOTH these cases, I think getting the right message across early/often is a great thing for the state to be doing" (Typical Liberal Response TLR)
Gosh the argument is tempting, evil conservative wants to deny her child an education on an important life subject, I mean who wants to have their 13 yo "raped" or "rape-raped" (thank you WHoopi) and if we don't teach them in school then it could happen!
But here are problems with this statement
"...and with teens in a position where they don't know how to deal with it....." where on earth did Hillary's village go.. I am all for support and that is what is lacking, REAL support for kids who need it, it does not take curriculum to whitewash with a broad stroke the minds of our children but it does take effort and insight beyond the union punch out and check out mentality to spot kids in trouble and extend a hand.

This is the same argument they use for sex education and teaching about homosexuality at this age too. And "adding a module to existing curriculum" when exactly are they going to teach math? What is the next life skill to add to the curriculum, does it NEED to be legislated? Can't the PTA or the local school board decide?

"For some families domestic violence is the norm"... thank goodness a module added to t he curriculum will save these kids...seriously the system is FAILING these kids because we have whitewashed the issue for our children in a vague one-size fits all approach that help people sleep better at night but accomplishes little. But its OK they will get everything they need in an approved sex ed class....Still trying to wrap my brain around that one.

I can get this, I can specifically recall when my young mind was tinkered with in school on 2 occasions reading Animal Farm, an ugly insight to the human psyche that I was too young to really understand beyond the shear horror of the book. Seriously inappropriate in many ways,that effect me still today. But that is another conversation entirely:) There are much more insidious things going on schools today, the systematic removal of God from our culture, the blatant manipulation of our history, the Marxist socialist practices that teach children only the government can provide for them.
So I am a Parent, I am exercising my parental right....and the response du jour, especially since the Obama School Speech....wait for it....
"I guess you can opt him out then." (TLR)(...read....steeped in venom)
Because it is now a signal that you are a radical wacko if you OPT your child out, it is flung at us as an insult, we are denigrated for CHOOSING to be the voice our children hear these things from. It is no wonder more moms DON'T opt out. They are made to feel like lesser beings for WANTING to spare their children a lecture on this sort of junk. It is a typical tactic, I am an AstroTurf, tea bagging, domestic, right wing terrorist, brown shirt, fringe, racist after all.
So is it wrong to demand they TEACH MATH that is what we pay for ...not raising our children, that is MY job. Seriously MANY children don't get quality curriculum or homework help and grow up deficient at math, science, reading comprehension.... there is no law to increase math instruction (only one to dumb everyone own to the same level). This whole "kid's have get it from us they aren't getting it at home" excuse kind of ends there for me.
Parents are parents. Neglectful parents are still parents and we have the right to do that job or not period there is no need to "do my job" While they have our kids why not teach them SKILLS to move out of the neglectful parent mold,teach kids to be self sufficient, instead of molding them into victims for life?
But alas, schools continue to underperform in the subjects that DO make a difference. But this is not the scope of a public school...they want to "raise" your children and parents be damned which is why I AM opting out of letting my kids be raised by someone else to be a dutiful tax paying robot, adults who think everyone goes home with a trophy and everyone is a victim and needs the "gubment" to hold their hands through life....
So, I believe this is most appropriate....as I am a Patriot Mom !

Welcome to the Frederick, MD area Sisterhood of Conservative Moms. We began as a small gathering of like minded moms,, meeting for lunch at each other's houses, discussing the state of our country, the state of our schools, and the fate of the Republic. We were drawn together in the sea of liberalism that is Maryland because we felt alone and as such, found each other and gravitated toward a common friendship bound by common values.
We marched on DC on 9/12!!!! What we learned is WE ARE NOT ALONE and as such I started this blog to further the discussion and to encourage more moms who feel as we do to join in. Alas there is not much more room at my table for the ladies luncheon, so here I introduce the next step. The sisterhood blog.
Further inspired by Glenn Beck's expose of patriot moms over the last two weeks, I know with all my heart we are on to something. As many of us sit at home pondering, praying and losing sleep at our perceived inability to affect change and our powerlessness to make those in Washington hear our voices, know that we are growing, here in this little spot in Maryland (the most liberal state in the Union) we are starting to whisper, and then we will talk and soon we will roar.
I eagerly invite you to join! Be a Patriot Mom....let's march on Washington Again and Again and Again in person and in prose. Come and be heard...you are not alone!
